South African actress, Noxolo Maqashalala, has died.

Ngubane, who was most famously known for his role as
Sibusiso “Ngamla” Dlomo in Generations, died yesterday at the age of 56
years. He also starred in Yizo Yizo, Ashes to Ashes and Isibaya,
among others.

Channel24 reports that the actor’s family confirmed to them
in a statement that he died at home of a stroke. Ngubane had also been battling
with kidney issues and received a transplant in 2015.

The entertainment industry was dealt a double blow with the
news of Maqashalala’s passing at the age of 44 years. The actress also starred
in Generations, Rhythm City and Intersexions. Her body was
reportedly found in her home in Honeydew on Friday.

Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa, said
that he is deeply saddened by the loss of the two actors.

“The sector has been robbed at a time when there is so much
tension and stress in the industry due to the economic collapse and already existing
challenges within the industry,” Mthethwa said.

“South Africa and the world have lost two phenomenal thespians.
Menzi Ngubane was an icon, an acting aficionado who used his voice and influence
to demystify issues on kidney disease and sugar diabetes, while promoting positive
lifestyle changes. He was a well-known and well-loved public figure who left an
ineffaceable mark on the South African arts landscape,” he added.

Regarding the passing of Maqashalala, Mthethwa said that
South Africa lost one of the greatest actresses of our time.

“Many will remember Maqashalala for her lead role as Viwe in
the 2003 SABC 1 youth drama series, Tsha Tsha. She was a sterling
performer who gave her best at every role she took on.

“The Department of Sport, Arts and Culture extends its condolences
to the family, friends and fans of these two iconic artists. May their souls
rest in peace.”
