A 30-year-old house robbery suspect was shot and killed by police last night, 25 February in Kwanobuhle. 

It is alleged that at about 22:00 two suspects entered a house in Dwangu Street, Kwanobuhle and robbed the homeowner of cash, a television set and their Blue Mazda 323 vehicle.

According to Captain André Beetge, police spokesperson, Kariega (formerly Uitenhage) K9 members spotted the stationary blue Mazda around 22:45 in Gqabi Street, Kwanobuhle.

“Three male suspects stood close to the vehicle and as soon as the police members approached them, one of the suspects produced a firearm and opened fire on the police vehicle. Members narrowly escaped injury, however, there were damages to their vehicle.

“Police returned fire, fatally injuring one of them. The other two suspects ran away. The deceased person was found in possession of a 9mm pistol,” Beetge said. 

All the stolen items were found inside the recovered vehicle. The next of kin of the deceased is yet to be notified. 

Police are on the hunt for the remaining two suspects.
