RHODES University were crowned the Eastern Cape Basketball Association (ECSBA) Club Championship winners after they overcame PE Comets 117–95 during the finals played at Raymond Mhlaba Sports Centre in Motherwell NU 4B recently.

The six women’s teams were divided into two groups. In Women’s Group 1, the teams were Gemineyez, Walter Sisulu University (WSU) and University of Fort Hare (UFH), while in Women’s Group 2 the teams were Rhodes University, Magic Shooters and Madibaz Basketball. WSU were outright winners by 91–8 over Magic Shooters in their semi-finals. Despite their 37–22 loss, Rhodes University gave up a good fight to Gemineyez during their semi-finals. In the finals, Rhodes University faced Gemineyez, easily defeating them 87–66.

The four men’s teams saw Rhodes University and East London Hearts in Group 1, while MARU and PE Comets were in Group 2.

PE Comets secured an easy 64–38 triumph in their clash with EL Hearts, with Rhodes University edging out Maru 54–49 in their nail-biting semi-finals. PE Comets were impressive during the finals. On the other hand, Rhodes University produced a marvellous performance throughout the finals. The standard of the game was extremely high and fans were kept on their feet. Visitors Rhodes managed to defeat PE Comets 117–95 on their home turf.
