Armed response company Fidelity ADT has issued a warning to residents of Gqeberha to be alert to the possible presence of suspects using remote jamming to steal vehicles. The warning comes after two reported incidents in Newton Park recently, in which jamming devices were reportedly used.

The Gqeberha branch manager for Fidelity ADT, Bernadette Nel-Naude, says it is important for vehicle owners to be alert to any suspicious activity when parking their vehicles.

“As far as possible, try to park your vehicle in an area where there is some sort of security presence and constant foot traffic. When you walk away from your vehicle, make sure it is properly locked and that all windows are closed.”

Nel-Naude also calls for residents to alert the police and law enforcement whenever suspicious activity is noted.

“The public have a very important role to play in being our eyes and ears. If you see someone loitering around parked cars or if you notice any behaviour that seems out of place, please speak up. It also helps the SAPS to build a proper crime trends picture if residents report any thefts or attempted thefts.”

She also recommends investing in any of the new vehicle tracking systems that are on the market.
