TOTAL South Africa recently announced the removal of the recycle bins that were at the Total Summerstrand service station.

In the interest of reducing litter and encouraging recycling among communities, Total introduced these recycling bins several years ago.

However, because of the abuse of this facility by members of the public, it has become an eye sore and a health risk, and has attracted vagrants.

“People have been dumping items, such as garden refuse, unwanted furniture, clothing and food, despite bins clearly being marked otherwise, and it is for this reason that the decision to close this facility has been taken,” said Reina Cullinan, Total’s corporate communications and marketing manager.

“We regret having to take this decision, but we have to operate in the best interest of our service stations and the communities in which Total operates.”
