A LOCAL non-profit organisation (NPO) will once again grant substance abusers in the northern areas of Nelson Mandela Bay an opportunity to move towards recovery when they host a recovery workshop in Gelvandale.

The 10-step Anathallo Recovery and Life Skills Programme is aimed at teaching the individuals freedom from substances, such as tik, alcohol, painkillers and many others.

The programme, written and presented by Ignacio Schneider, aims to assist substance abusers towards recovery and restoration.

It couples biblical principles with experience of substance abuse and formal rehabilitation.

Schneider himself was a substance abuser for 12 years.

“Drugs have a devastating effect on families.

“It seems like an insurmountable task to overcome, but it is not impossible. Being willing to change your lifestyle is the first step to a changed life,” he said.

Anthallo, a registered NPO, has been running for nearly two years and has assisted numerous substance abusers on the road to recovery.

The programme also offers a helping hand, in terms of advice and a listening ear, to families of substance abusers.

This year Georgino Langford will be one of the facilitators. Langford completed the Anathallo 10 Step Programme in 2016.

“I am excited to be part of this journey on the other side of the table this time. Recovery is absolutely possible,” he said.

The workshop will take place at the Gelvandale Community Centre in the main hall from July 9 to July 13 from 08:30 to 13:00.

There is no admission fee, but donations are welcome. For more info or to register contact Ignacio Schneider on 073 302 7666.
