LOCAL residents have had to give up many of the simple pleasures in life this lockdown – including getting together with friends over a piping hot cappuccino or pot of fragrant tea.
Although it is now possible under lockdown level three to meet again at a favourite coffee shop, St Francis Hospice has come up with a virtual tea party challenge that will help you keep in touch with friends, show off your techno-savvy skills and assist them in their fund-raising efforts.
Like many other organisations, Hospice is having a tough time finding funds to continue its work in providing home-based palliative care to patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses in Nelson Mandela Bay and surrounding areas.
St Francis Hospice resources manager, Nicky von Hoffmann, explained, “At present approximately 270 patients a month in the final stages of an illness, such as cancer, HIV/Aids or motor neuron disease, are given assistance and support is provided to their families – many of whom live in abject poverty.
“Hospice care and comfort is provided to everyone in need – regardless of their ability to contribute financially to the cost of this care.
“Your financial contribution – no matter how small – keeps the wheels turning.”
Members of the virtual tea party make a donation of R50 to Hospice to help keep its services running.
