Kidnappers have made a ransom demand for a foreign national who was abducted by eight-armed suspects on the R75 in the Missionvale area, Gqeberha, on 29 January.
Police spokesperson Sandra Janse van Rensburg confirmed the ransom demand has been received from the abductors. Following the ransom demand, the investigation was taken over by the Hawks.
Hawks spokesperson Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana said there have been no new developments in the case but noted that the Hawks are following all possible leads that might “assist in unlocking the case and rescuing the victim.
The foreign national was driving a blue Ford Ranger in the Missionvale area when he was attacked by eight armed men while accompanied by his security team, as previously reported by the Express.
During the incident, a shot was fired that grazed one of the private security guards before the suspects fled the scene with their victim.
