Female employees at Radisson Blu Hotel in Port Elizabeth were equipped with self-defense skills in honour of Women’s Month.
August in South Africa is synonymous with Women’s Month, with many celebrations taking place to honour women. In celebration of Women’s month, the Safety and Security Manager at Radisson Blu Hotel, Deonatious Abrahams, initiated an out of the ordinary event for the female staff.
In partnership with their Armed Response Service Provider, Atlas, the ladies were gathered in a room and spent the afternoon equipping themselves with effective self-defense skills.
Bernadette Nel-Naude from Atlas Security provided key takeaways and practical movements to assist when faced with a situation that places you at risk.
Abrahams said that he felt the need to inform and empower his fellow colleagues in being safety wise. “The basic self-defense skills is a preventative tool to know what to do in case of attempted assault and/or robbery incidents.”
Among the joy and laughter of the women in the workshop when exercising the practical self-defense moves, was a sense of empowerment (and inner warrior) that each will be more aware of their personal safety and pay it forward to educate the females in their circles on what they learnt.
