The stolen radioactive canister was found at a North End scrap yard dealer by its owners this morning, November 14.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, the scrap yard dealer contacted the owners via the numbers provided on the circulated flyers.

“According to the dealer, a male attempted to sell the item to them, and when the dealer started questioning him, he ran away.

“The canister was fetched by its owners at the scrap yard,” said Beetge.

“According to them, it didn’t seem to have been tampered with,” he added.

“No arrests have been made however, police are appealing to anyone with information that would assist in finding the suspect/s involved; however, to contact SAPS Mount Road Detectives, D/Const Micaela Swart at 069 358 9965.”
