THE Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital will be hosting a free health screening and a 5km fun heart walk during September.
This in an attempt to educate and create awareness of heart diseases and the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
According to the hospital, heart diseases and strokes are the second biggest killers in South Africa after HIV/Aids.
The statistics revealed that the number of people suffering from heart disease, young and old, is increasing at a tremendous rate.
A Cardiac Wellness Day will be held tomorrow from 09:00 to 13:00 at the Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital’s Recreational Hall.
The session will include free health screening stations, cholesterol testing, blood glucose check, high blood pressure and BMI and waist measurement.
In addition, the wellness day will offer stress management techniques, exercise tips, health and motivational talks from open heart surgery survivors.
On September 28, a Fun Heart Walk will be held from 08:00.
Late registration takes place from 07:30.
