TONIGHT will be a special evening for a special group of school rugby players.

The official capping ceremony of the Eastern Province players, U/15 to U/18, will be held at Cillie High School.

It will no doubt be a very proud moment for the players and their parents when they receive their provincial colours.

The preparation of the EP team for the Craven Week, starting on July 4 at Ronde-bosch Boys High, is now in full swing.

Last week, the EP boys played two matches against teams from the South Western Districts (SWD) in Oudtshoorn, as part of their preparation for the big tournament.

EP lost to the Craven Week side of SWD (42-24) but beat SWD Academy 49-41.

The results weren’t that important as the focus in these matches were on finding the right combinations and working on the interplay of the team.

Coach, Elric van Vuuren, of Despatch, and the captain, Liselihle Maphekula, of Graeme College, will do some more hard work on and off the field before that first match against Griquas in Rondebosch.

The U/18 Academy Week also starts on July 3 and the matches will be played in Wellington. This EP side will be captained by the flanker, De Wet Fourie, of Daniel Pienaar.

EP is also expected to give a strong showing at the LSEN (learners with special education needs) week from this Monday in George. The U/16 Grant Khomo Week will also start on Monday. It will take place in Kimberley.

The EP side which will participate in this week started preparing with matches against SWD and Boland last week.

Last week’s results:

U/18: Boland 38, EP Academy 10, SWD 42, EP 24, EP Academy 34, Boland Academy 29, EP 49, SWD Academy 41, Graeme College 55, Union High 3.
