CANSA in Gqeberha is offering free Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) blood tests on Friday at their Care Centre at 8 Eden Road in Glendinningvale.

According to CANSA, the PSA blood tests help detect prostate abnormalities and it is recommended that men do this screening by age 45 or sooner if they have a family history of prostate cancer.

The purpose of PSA screening is to detect prostate cancer at its earliest stages, before any symptoms have developed. Early screening is crucial as prostate cancer often occurs without any symptoms and symptoms are more likely when the cancer is already at an advanced stage. Prostate cancer is the most common male cancer affecting men in South Africa.
