SEVERAL athletes gave it their all during the Eastern Cape Equipped Powerlifting Championships that took place at Cape Recife on April 27.

Minke Colling, Ance Vermaak, Rutgar Leibach and Mornay Human were the first-time lifters looking to make a name for themselves.

In the junior women’s (63kg body) category, Samantha Harding set two new Eastern Cape records, namely, a 112,5 squat lift and a total lift of 300. In the Master 2 Men’s (120+kg body) category, first-timer Human broke the Eastern Cape record for bench lifting with 150.

In the sub-junior women (57kg) division, it was a close battle between two lifters. Anika Ferreira and Colling both totalled the same weight, but in the end the winner was Ferreira who won on body weight.

The lifters who qualified for the South African Equipped Championships in Gauteng on July 6 are:
