A man was shot dead whilst travelling in a VW Polo on the M4 freeway last night, April 7.
According to a preliminary report, the 27-year-old driver of a grey Polo hatch was driving on this freeway with his two friends at approximately 19:30 when they suddenly heard a loud noise. They first thought that it was a tyre burst but soon realised that they had been shot at.
Police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, said that the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided with the railings on the side.
“The driver and one passenger got out and ran away. When they later returned to the vehicle, they found the back-seated passenger dead inside the vehicle due to multiple gunshot wounds.”
The suspects are unknown at this stage and the motive for the shooting is under investigation. Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
The deceased person was identified as Makilone Rapelang Emanuel (34) from Makangiso Street in Motherwell.
