Police issue warning against night walks after Happy Valley bridge murder

Police in Humewood are investigating the murder of 56-year-old Bonginkosi Mpange, who died after being stabbed multiple times, on Friday, June 21, on Beach Road in Summerstrand.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, it is alleged that at approximately 23:55, police responded to a complaint at Happy Valley Bridge, on Beach Road, in Summerstrand.

She said on arrival they were informed by a witness that they were walking back from the Boardwalk towards McDonalds when they were approached by two unknown suspects.

“They were attacked and robbed of their cell phones and cash. 

“Mpange, scuffled with the one suspect and during the scuffle he was stabbed multiple times in the torso, back and arm,” she explained.

Mpange died on the scene.

Janse Van Rensburg stated that the motive for the murder is robbery, and the suspects are unknown at this stage.

“Police are warning people not to walk in this area late at night as during this time the area is quiet, and criminals lie in wait for their prey,” she concluded.
