An off-duty police constable (25), attached to Kwazakele SAPS, was stabbed to death while returning from a local tavern on September 21.
According to police spokesperson Captain Andre Beetge, the incident occurred at approximately 23:00.
Beetge reported that the victim and his girlfriend had visited a tavern in Zwide. While walking back home on Somfula Street, they were approached by two unknown male suspects who allegedly attempted to rob them.
“In the process, the victim was stabbed in the neck and died at the scene.
“The suspects fled on foot after stealing his cellphone,” Beetge added.
A murder case has been opened and is being investigated by Kwazakele SAPS.
