Police question ex-husband of missing woman from Gqeberha

SAPS Bethelsdorp detectives are seeking the community’s assistance in tracing a 57-year-old woman who went missing on Friday, June 9.

According to police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg, on Friday, June 9,  at approximately 10:00, Desiree Baartman left her house in Nagel Street, Extension 29, Bethelsdorp. She never returned home.

Enquiries were made with family and friends whom she frequently visited, but they could not trace her, and on Wednesday, June 14, she was reported missing at SAPS Bethelsdorp.

Following investigations into the disappearance of Desiree Baartman, who was reported missing on Wednesday, June 14, SAPS Bethelsdorp detectives have detained her ex-husband (59) for questioning.

It is alleged that the estranged couple lived together after their divorce, and on the mentioned date, her ex-husband reported her missing from Friday, June 9.

“On Friday, June 16, and Saturday, June 17, SAPS Forensic experts thoroughly investigated the house for any evidence, and based on their preliminary analysis, the ex-husband was detained for further questioning,” said Police Spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu.

“A firearm was also confiscated,” Naidu added.

Police have, at this stage, opened an attempted murder case.

Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in tracing Desiree Baartman to urgently contact SAPS Bethelsdorp crime office on 071 475 1953 or Crime Stop 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.
