YOUNG Pirates FC managed to overcome Villagers 2-1 in their SAFA NMB Masters League game at Motherwell NU 13 Grounds on Sunday.

Villagers started the game on a high note with their midfielder, Reason Fountain, creating goal-scoring opportunities.

The hosts were the first side to register their opening goal courtesy of Welcome Ncandana in the 24th minute. Villagers’ defenders, Bongani Sandi and Sinakho Swartbooi, kept things tight.

After Villagers lost concentration right at the back, Khaya “Chicken” Mhlahlo laid a perfect pass between their counterparts’ defenders with skipper, Ntsikelelo Mdepa, equalising on the stroke of the first half.

The two sides kept on entertaining their supporters. Pirates’ goalkeeper, Fundile Wade Kolisi, pulled off two brilliant saves at point blank range. Villagers’ Khaya Shenxane was instrumental in the midfield.
