The greater Bethelsdorp area is now also affected by the Chelsea/Motherwell pipeline that burst yesterday, Thursday, June 24.
Teams have been on site since yesterday morning to assess the situation and start with repairs.
According to Port Elizabeth Traffic Updates, the burst has caused damage to the surrounding embankment, requiring bulk earth works to stabilise the pipe and chambers.
“Welding is also required to complete repairs on the pipeline. It is envisaged that the job will be completed by late afternoon. However, the system will be take time to fill up,” they said in a statement on their Facebook Page.
According to a media statement by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, the burst pipeline was to disrupt the East-West water supply transfer and cause reservoirs to lose storage, but today, the NMBM said that more areas have been affected.
