PORT Elizabeth East Football Association (PEEFA) chairperson, Zolani Willem, informed PE Express that his local football association (LFA) is ready to resume their league programme.

Willem highlighted that PEEFA had already planned for the season, but they were waiting for the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay Regional League office to give them the green light, in order to start the league. He urged PEEFA clubs to exercise high levels of patience while the regional league office was silent about playing.

Willem said, “I know that our clubs have been inactive for a very long time since the outbreak of the coronavirus disease. Playing unofficial games is not allowed at all. People are still dying of COVID-19 because it is still infecting people.

“Therefore, I humbly appeal to our clubs to be patient while we are still waiting from SAFA NMB Regional League. We need to obey the government lockdown regulations all the time.”

According to Willem, PEEFA were fully prepared for the start of the season. PEEFA had already drawn the programmes for U/13, U/15, U/17, first team reserves and senior teams.

He said that their challenge was that they had only the Young Aces Ladies’ side campaigning in the SAFA NMB Women’s Regional League. He begged clubs to recruit women to play for them as SAFA is encouraging the promotion of women’s football in the LFAs. Willem also revealed that their playing fields were Mawabo Dyubhele Sports Complex in Kwadwesi, KwaMagxaki Rugby Field and Veeplaas Football Turf Field.
