PORT Elizabeth Primary Schools’ Cross-Country honoured their top athletes during their prize-giving at the Department of Education Ethel Valentine’s Building in Sidwell on Tuesday.

PE Primary Schools’ Cross-Country chairperson, Melvin Dapo, said, “Our main objective is to motivate our learners who put our region on the map. We are very proud of our learners.”

The guest speaker, Mthuthuzeli Banda, told the athletes they should keep on trying and never give up.

Banda said, “You must never undermine yourself but you must have a positive attitude always.

“You must rise and shine because one day you will make your parents, your school, your region and the country very proud,” Banda said.

PE Primary Schools’ Cross-Country awarded medals and certificates to 42 learners.

Dapo gave special awards to community coaches, Johnny Uithaler and Theodore Kemp, and 10 athletes who represented Nelson Mandela Bay during the national championships.

  • Khulile Primary: Khazimla Fellem and Sinekhaya Mbathane
  • Ben Sinuka Primary: Masimbulele Mielies and Oyintanda Bosman
  • Emafini Primary: Luniko Mpini and Iviwe Mlungwana
  • Arcadia Primary: Roshyne Goliath
  • Enkwenkwezini Primary: Sibahle Nonkonyane
