THE Bay’s women in blue recently held a pampering session for staff at Erica Youth and Childcare Centre in celebration of Women’s Month.
The women from all five departments within the Safety and Security Directorate took part and pampered the staff with foot spas, neck and back massages, including manicures.
While the staff were pampered, the Safety and Security staff looked after the toddlers at the centre. The session was led by the MMC for Safety and Security, Noluthando Pink, representing the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro Police Department Women’s Network Forum.
The forum was established to align its activities with the annual policing plan of the department to improve the overall quality of women’s lives. Pink said the Women’s Network Forum consists of female members within the Safety and Security Directorate who volunteer their services.
Their main purpose and function is to create awareness and render support to communities.
“The forum shows the softer side of the Metro Police. We don’t just do enforcement, but we also care about our communities and strive to make a difference in their lives,” Pink said.
The Women’s Network Forum runs social crime prevention awareness and education throughout the year. Pink added, “We deal with kids as well as adults. Awareness and education are our main focus.
“We also encourage women to support each other through awareness and education and to endeavour to be self sustained in order not to be trapped in abusive relationships,” Pink said.
