RAYMOND Mhlaba Indoor Sports Centre was filled to the rafters recently, when Vulumzi Senior Secondary School held a glittering function to honour their outstanding educators and 2022 Grade 12 learners.
SADTU Motherwell Branch education officer, Asanda Sizani, stated that Vulumzi Secondary 2022 Grade 12 learners had put their school on the map. Sizani commended the educators for working hard as their school was counted amongst the best schools with best matriculation results.
“Despite the challenging situations at our schools, these educators delivered a lot for their Grade 12 learners. That alone shows that they are dedicated and productive,” said Sizani.
“Every year the performances of Vulumzi Secondary Grade 12 class are highly impressive. These good results are the fruits of hard labour. On behalf of SADTU, I would like to thank the learners and educators for these outstanding 2022 Grade 12 results.”
Vulumzi Secondary deputy principal, Nono Quza, revealed their Grade 12 classes had been achieving the best results from 2020 to 2022.
“In 2020, our Grade 12 class results were 72%, while in 2021, our Grade 12 class results were 79,6% and last year, our Grade 12 class results were 82%,” explained Quza.
“Our educators are conscientious and have been very helpful to the learners all these years. They maintain high standards and our exit class learners know exactly what is expected of them.”
Principal Mzimkhulu Fina stated that his school had obtained 57 bachelors passes, 47 diploma passes and 14 certificate passes.
“At Vulumzi Secondary, we are committed to make a huge difference in the lives of our learners. I am pleased to say that our staff members make our school stakeholders very proud. Our school earns respect and recognition from our community because of our educators and learners,” said Fina. “I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to the staff and our learners, as well as our stakeholders.”
According to Fina, Nonkanyiso Mamana, Mbali Ntontela, Azile Mata and Hlumelo Sali obtained distinctions in IsiXhosa Home Language, Business Studies and Life Sciences respectively.
Educators who achieved above 80% pass in their subjects:
Ntombuzuko Peyi: 84% in Mathematical Literacy
Nono Quza: 88% in Life Sciences
Nokuzola Jantjies: 91% in Business Studies
Mzikayise Koboka: 91% in History
Nomathamsanqa Njibane: 97% in Economics
Educators who received 100% pass in their subjects:
Simbongile Somniso: English First Additional Language
Daniswa Phillips: Accounting
Nokuzola Jantjies: Life Orientation
Best department of the year: Department of Commerce under Department Head, Nomathamsanqa Njibane
Beauty Tose: Agriculture – and she won the best teacher award
Special awards: Principal Mzimkhulu Fina and Nono Quza for their valuable support to the staff.
