ON Saturday, June 1, and Sunday, June 2, the South African National Zakah Fund (SANZAF) hosted its annual Operation Fitrah parcel packing at the Muslim Movement Hall in Parkside, Gelvandale.

The Fitrah Packing programme is done in preparation for the official end of SANZAF’s programme for the holy month of Ramadan. Their aim is to serve over 185 000 Iftar meals ensuring needy beneficiaries have a nutritious meal to break their fast with.

Regional chairperson, Aziez Madatt, said, “Ramadan affords us the opportunity to open our hearts to reach the less fortunate.”

The Fitrah parcels are distributed to families who are beneficiaries of the food security programme which SANZAF provides to its recipients every month in Uitenhage and in Port Elizabeth. The parcels will ensure that under-resourced Muslim communities have adequate food supply on the day of Eid.
