Parts of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality remain without water; some areas for days, others for weeks, as the Metro shared an update with residents that Nooitgedagt Water Treatment Works is still operating, “with three high-lift pumps and two low-lift pumps, currently pumping approximately 180 megalitres of water per day.”

Municipal spokesperson Sithembiso Soyaya claimed that sufficient chemicals have been delivered to sustain operations for the next few days, with additional replenishments already planned.

“Motherwell Reservoir remains low but is recovering steadily,” he said. “Challenges are still being experienced in NU4, and water tankers will be dispatched to both NU4 and Kamvelihle to assist affected residents.”

Residents from Scheepershoogte are reportedly without access to water for five days, as the Metro claim that “Fairbridge Reservoir is currently low.”

“The Kabah Reservoir pumps operated for four and a half hours overnight, enabling water to be pumped into the Rosedale area, with supply expected to improve later today,” he said. “Three water tankers will also be deployed to support residents experiencing prolonged outages,” with residents from Scheepershoogte and McNaughton claiming they have not had a water truck delivered to them.

The Chatty Reservoir is open and operational, which should assist surrounding areas to recover and restore supply. Bloemendal Reservoir is expected to begin filling later this morning.

Soyaya added that Stanford Road Pump Station is currently operational, allowing teams to pump water into the Bethelsdorp area.

“Loerie Pump Station is currently running at 60 megalitres,” he said. “The pump station is scheduled for desludging over the weekend and is expected to return to optimal operation by Monday.”

In the statement, Soyaya stated that Churchill Reservoir is currently running at 35 megalitres, “while Greenbushes continues to recover, with monitoring set to continue throughout the weekend.”

He continued, “At Bushy Park Pump Station, two components will be replaced, which will improve the pump station’s ability to pump and support affected areas without water supply.”

Soyaya claimed that Emerald Hill Reservoir has recovered, and residents in Lovemore Heights and surrounding areas should begin receiving water shortly. “Fairview is also expected to receive water this morning.”

Additionally, at Struandale Pump Station, “two pumps are currently running, which should assist the recovery of the Gelvandale area,” he said. “In the interim, water tankers will be dispatched to alleviate ongoing disruptions caused by limited pumping capacity at the Struandale Pump Station.”

He added that Heatherbank Reservoir levels are also improving this morning.

“The Municipality is pleased to report that, should current progress continue, all residents are expected to have access to water by next week,” Soyaya concluded.
