Following the water outages in specific areas in the metro, Nelson Mandela Bay mayor, Retief Odendaal, visited the Bushy Park borehole project earlier this morning, December 3.
Odendaal has confirmed that the sealing work on the inside of the main Kromme pipeline (Churchill and Impofu Dams) was completed last night. They are now just waiting for the cement mortar lining (which was done last night) to cure.
“Whilst I was on site the contractors completed the external sealing which will not delay the work. If everything goes according to plan we will start pumping water through the pipeline by this evening. I have received many messages from upset residents blaming their ward councillors for the water outage. Please be patient, ward councillors had nothing to do with the decision to shut the pipeline down.
“In fact, the work was done to prevent future water interruptions on this line as it will augment supply by 10 ML of water per day. Thank you for your patience. We won’t have such an extended water outage in relation to new construction work on this line for the foreseeable future,” he said.
