A LOCAL NGO, the Nkosinathi Foundation of and for Blind and Partially Sighted People, celebrated its 70th birthday with dozens of its members at a special annual general meeting on June 6.
Since its inception on May 27, 1948 and under the strong and visionary leadership of Debby Wakeford over the past 31 years, the foundation has consistently grown to become the largest service provider to blind and partially sighted people in the Eastern Cape.
It offers supportive and comprehensive rehabilitation services, such as orientation and mobility training, adapted daily living skills, braille and computer training, as well as low vision assessments.
Nkosinathi Foundation and its dedicated team show no signs of slowing down either.
Commenting on reaching the incredible milestone, Michelle McLean, the newly appointed CEO, said, “Our 70th year has proven to be a very exciting one for the foundation so far, with two new exciting partnerships, upgrades to our infrastructure and acquisitions in equipment and low vision assistive devices.
“We look forward to continue our important journey of Breaking Barriers of Blindness for many years to come.”
