NGONYAMA Pharmacy and Motherwell NU 10-based club, Channel Porto FC, surprised two less fortunate families with food parcels on Sunday.

According to Sifundo Boltina, Porto FC head coach and communications and marketing manager, they discovered that there were two families in their club’s vicinity who had nothing to eat during the nationwide lockdown.

Boltina, together with his president, Vuyolwethu Isaac, general secretary, Nozuko Ntini, club legend, Sipho Sailor Dyoba and captain, Lunga Magobiyane, decided that they should come to the rescue of the Plaatjie and Kalashe families.

Boltina also highlighted that the living conditions of the two families were not good at all.

He informed PE Express that his executive committee had instructed him to give a letter to Mkhululi Kusta Baleka, the owner of Ngonyama Pharmacy, asking him to help provide the Plaatjie and Kalashe families with something to eat. Boltina said that Ngonyama Pharmacy responded quickly and positively to their plea.

Boltina stated that their club belongs to the community, since Porto FC draws its players from Motherwell NU 10 area.

“This club belongs to the people and they must claim ownership of this club. Their children play for this club. This is not one man’s club,” he said.

Gogo Nomsiki Plaatjie (85), who received a food parcel, thanked Porto FC officials for making a difference. She encouraged the youth to take part in sport.

“There are people with a good heart in sport.

“Today my family and I are going to have something to eat. I thank Ngonyama Pharmacy and Porto FC for helping us with these groceries,” said Plaatjie.

Siphiwe Kalashe (53), who is unemployed and has no source of income, also thanked Ngonyama Pharmacy and Porto FC for making the donation possible to them.

Kalashe said, “My son belongs to the caring side led by good people.

“I am very happy because I did not know where I should go in order to get some food. The two parties, Ngonyama Pharmacy and Porto FC, have made our day and I thank them.”

Porto FC president, Vuyolwethu Isaac, thanked his executive committee for helping the people who have nothing and who put Porto FC on the map.
