GQEBERHA – Three suspects charged in connection with the brutal murder of Newton Park businessman Daniel de Jager were granted a final postponement when they appeared before the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court today, 6 February.

According to SAPS spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, four suspects broke into the property whilst the couple were sleeping. The female victim reported hearing a loud noise before being confronted by the intruders in the passage.

The State noted in court that the investigation is not yet complete. The State prosecutor noted that the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) gave instructions that the DNA report, lab results of the drugs the deceased allegedly ingested, two statements and a medical report on de Jager which indicates that he had ingested drugs are still outstanding.

The prosecutor added that the last postponement will also be for the retrieval of the docket for the defence team, consisting of a Legal Aid attorney for Cilliers and Scholtz and a private attorney for Le Grange.

The trio will remain in custody as they had elected to abandon their bail. The matter was remanded until 1 April 2026 for further investigation.
