Humewood police are urgently seeking the community’s
assistance in tracing the mother of a new born baby girl who was left abandoned
in a black plastic refuse bag, in Valley Road in Baakens Valley.

According to police reports, it is alleged that at about
13:00 this afternoon, bush dwellers were rummaging in the bush next to Tramways when they
stumbled onto a black plastic bag dumped in bushes.

“Inside the bag, the infant was found with the umbilical
cord still attached. The race of the child is yet to be determined. An inquest
docket has been opened for further investigation,” police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla
Naidu said.

“Anyone who can assist in tracing the mother or may know of
any person who may have been recently being pregnant and may be suspicious of
such person is asked to contact SAPS Humewood on 041 5045019/20 or Crime Stop
08600 10111 or their nearest police station. All information is confidential,
and callers may remain anonymous.”
