AN additional driving licence testing centre (DLTC) will soon open in Motherwell to provide services to residents in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
The new DLTC will be part of the Motherwell Thusong Centre project which started in 2017/18 financial year.
This state-of-the-art centre will consist of the DLTC, traffic law enforcement, metro police and a customer care centre.
The DLTC is said to bring relief to the two current driving licence centres in Korsten and Uitenhage.
According to the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality director of traffic and licensing, Warren Prins, the Motherwell Thusong Centre project will enhance the traffic department and the services it renders in the metro.
“We are in the process of completing the final stages of the project.
“The driving licence section is almost 70% finalised in terms of the internal infrastructure,” Prins said.
“The centre will bring a huge relief to the traffic department and to the previously disadvantaged communities.
“With planning, we also want to open more satellite stations in future,” he added.
“Currently, we have two DLTCs in the metro and normally, residents in Motherwell have transport expenses to visit these DLTCs.
“They will soon have access to their very own DLTC, which is certainly going to make life a bit easier for them,” Prins commented.
The new testing centre will provide learner licence tests, and driver’s licence testing, as well as normal licensing applications.
The station will be a grade B testing station, which means there will be no motorcycle licence testing.
Prins said, “The DLTC will also be of assistance should any problem regarding licence backlogs occur in the future.
“The Nelson Mandela Bay’s driving licence department have since set plans in place to prioritise the backlog of driving licenses in the metro, which is currently being implemented.”
The state-of-the-art Motherwell Thusong Centre is expected to be fully operational from July 1, and the DLTC will officially be launched then as well.
“Traffic operation service has also been identified to be launched in the new financial year as a regional station.
“From a management point of view, we are looking forward to the opening of the new DLTC, which will cater for all residents in the metro,” Prins added.
