THE KwaZakhele-based social establishment, Gentlemen’s Club, will host an indoor soccer and netball tournament at Lillian Ngoyi Indoor Sports Complex in KwaZakhele on Saturday, August 31.
Tournament organiser, Sakhumzi Makonkxa, said that according to their rules, soccer clubs are allowed to field players who are aged 30 and above, but in netball there is no age restriction. The joining fees are R500 for both netball and soccer.
One of the tournament organisers, Mlungisi Wara Ngani, stated that the aim of the tournament was to keep the clubs of the community involved in sport.
“We want to see our people competing with each other in sport.
“Furthermore, we want to encourage mass participation in our community.
“The prizes in both netball and soccer are R3 500 plus a live sheep for the winners, R2 500 for the runners-up and R1 000 for the third-placed team,” he said.
The closing date for registration is tomorrow, August 29, while the draws take place at Lillian Ngoyi Indoor Sports Complex on August 30 at 18:00. Interested teams can contact the tournament organisers, Makonkxa at 081 478 4603 or Ngani at 083 363 1788.
