The N2 highway near Nelson Mandela Bay has allegedly been closed due to a dangerous wildfire raging near the wind farm, forcing authorities to evacuate nearby communities as strong winds fuel the flames through dry vegetation.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Fire and Emergency Department issued urgent warnings for residents to avoid the area as the fire poses a significant threat to surrounding communities.
According to a municipal statement, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Fire and Emergency Department, in collaboration with Fire Protection Association, has mobilised 10 firefighting vehicles and teams to combat the wildfires near the wind farm.
“With public safety a top priority, efforts are focused on containing the blaze, protect nearby communities, and prevent further spread. Affected areas are being closely monitored, and authorities are urging residents to exercise caution.”
The statement added that this response is a key part of the Municipality’s broader efforts to prioritise safety and mitigate fire risks.
“As the situation unfolds, residents are being reminded to remain vigilant and report any signs of fire.”
