AKHONA Nkumanda is presenting a musical showcase, Out of Africa, on the 9 November 2019 at the PE Opera House at 17:00.

The musical will focus on how relationships are affected by social issues in society and how the structure of families affects human relationships and well–being. The musical aims at restoring hope, in spite of broken and strained relationships that often characterise the family and community.

The showcase will also shed light on themes of gangsterism and depression as these are both pressing matters and prevailing ills in the world today; spreading a message of hope despite circumstances that dictate otherwise.

Nkumanda is a Music and Musical Theatre teacher at the Creative Arts and Music Academy (CAMA) and a lecturer at the NMU Music Department, where he started the NMU Chamber Choir.

He has directed Ipi Tombi and Westside Story at The Gilbert and Sullivan Society of Port Elizabeth. Having formed part of the NMU Choir for seven years, Nkumanda is a classical artist in his own right.

His goal is to produce a musical theatre production by utilising and showcasing the rich talent of the township; giving a platform to local talent and also bringing this culture to life to be enjoyed by patrons throughout the Bay.

Out of Africa will also have a matinee show at 13:00, which is aimed primarily at schools.
