MOTHERWELL-BORN Mbombela United FC midfielder, Amandla Mrwebi, is on a mission to plough back into his community club once he hangs up his boots as a player.
Mrwebi started playing football for his father’s team, Young Romans, in Motherwell NU 7, when he was nine years old.
As a rising star, he was selected to represent Nelson Mandela Bay Schools’ team in the Danon Nations Cup u/12 Tournament in Cape Town, in 2002, where he played alongside future Bafana Bafana player, Kermit Erasmus.
In 2004, Mrwebi joined Highland Spurs FC and was part of the u/14 that competed in the Transnet Cup national championships. Bay Academy head coach, Sam Mbatha, recruited Mrwebi to play during the Bay Hill Cup. In 2009, Bay Academy won the Bay Hill Cup Plate.
In 2010, he joined Lion City, who won the SAFA Nelson Mandela Bay SAB Regional League trophy. In October 2010, Mrwebi was selected to play for the SAFA NMB u/21 side that competed in the national championships in Cape Town.
Mrwebi was scouted by Cape All Stars FC, to play in the ABC Motsepe League and the Nedbank Cup last 32. He returned to Lion City FC in 2016 and they finished in second place in the ABC Motsepe League.
Mrwebi says, “I was called back by Cape Town All Stars to play in the National First Division. In 2017, I joined Future Tigers FC which campaigned in the ABC Motsepe League.
“Unfortunately, Tigers lost 2-0 to EC Bees FC in a deciding game in order to win a league trophy. In 2018, I joined Tornado FC which won the ABC Motsepe League. We then drew all our games during the play-offs in Polokwane.
“Then in 2018, I joined PE Stars which is an ABC Motsepe side. Then I left Stars and joined Buya Msuthu in North West for a half of a season. In January 2020, I signed a contract with the Mpumalanga side, Mbombela United.”
Mrwebi said that he would still like to play for Chippa United or Kaiser Chiefs in the PSL.
“When I have hung up my boots I would like to coach my community side, Seven Sundowns.
