Police are alerting motorists who intend on utilising roads near the intersection of Jijana Street and Addo Road in Markman, to find alternative routes as the road is blockaded by trucks and accessibility is at its minimum.
According to police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naiud, it is alleged that at about 15:30 today, June 12, truck drivers blockaded and closed off the abovementioned roads.
“Approximately 22 trucks are involved in the blockade. The group responsible for the blockade is the All Truck Drivers Foundation (ATDF) and it has to do with the ongoing grievance by themselves relating to the employment of foreign nationals as truck drivers,” she explained.
“Public Order Policing, Provincial and Metro Traffic, SAPS K9, the Anti-Gang Unit and SAPS Swartkops are in attendance. Apart from the congestion, there are no further incidents,” Naidu said.
