ONE of the country’s oldest bread companies, Sasko, injected funds into the development of grassroots soccer in partnership with the Motherwell Football Association.
The MOFA Sasko Knockout Tournament, which is played by 42 senior teams, started with a big bang at Motherwell NU 9 and NU 11 Stadiums on Sunday.
According to MOFA chairperson, Thobela Dekeda, his LFA received a sum of R10 000 from Sasko late last year.
Dekeda said, “We decided to play a tournament instead of a league because R10 000 would not be enough. All our 42 senior teams face each other and our junior teams will participate in the MOFA Sasko KO Tournament.
“The first prize will be R4 000, gold medals and a floating trophy for the winners and R2 000 plus silver medals for runners-up while the losing semi-finalist settle for R500 each.
“The winners in the U-13 and U-15 divisions go home with floating trophies and gold medals each. The runners-up in the junior teams receive silver medals each.”
Sasko Road Show manager, Bonelo Mayoyo, said that their company wanted to make a change in the community that supports them.
“Our company ploughs back into the community. We add value to our people who are always loyal to us. These people always buy our products. By sponsoring MOFA we appreciate their unwavering support to us,” said Mayoyo.
Dekeda thanked Sasko for the sponsorship to MOFA. “We are so grateful to Sasko for supporting us in the development of grassroots sport.
“We will ensure that the tournament is played smoothly. We want to keep the brand image of Sasko standing. We appeal to our people to support Sasko by buying their bread.
Games were played on a straight knockout format at Motherwell NU 9 and NU 11 Stadiums.
