MOTHERWELL Football Association (MOFA) president, Thobela Dekeda, has revealed that he had taken action against the teams that were playing games during the national lockdown.
Dekeda said that he had reported teams that organised tournaments to the Ikamvelihle Police Station.
He stated that the police response was very quick.
“I am very happy that there is a relationship between the police and us. When we inform them that there are teams playing games, the police go quickly and chase the teams away. Those teams that defy the lockdown should be arrested.
“We have been communicating with our clubs but some teams do not want to obey our orders and the government’s call that there should be no games during this Covid-19 outbreak.”
Dekeda said that the games are played at the Wells Estates, Ikamvelihle and Motherwell NU 13 soccer fields.
He said, “We go the field to stop the games but when we go home, they continue with their games.
“This is very serious because Covid-19 kills people. I am happy the police help us in calling off these games.”
Dekeda was furious when he revealed that there were some community members who were stopped after they were about to start building some shacks on Qwarha and Mkhombe Street soccer fields recently.
He said he was very worried, as some people wanted to build shacks on the fields their children use for sport.
