IN recognition of their selfless efforts, the Missionvale Care Centre (MCC) was recently honoured with the Community Service Award by ASAIPA (The Association of Sorbet Accreditations in Primary Healthcare).

This esteemed award acknowledges the centre’s tireless work in empowering the impoverished community of Missionvale.

“This award is a huge honour, validating our approach to holistic health and community development. We’re proud to be recognised for our efforts in uplifting the socio-economic health of our community,” said MCC General Manager, Sabrina Lambers, expressing her gratitude.

MCC’s innovative approach focuses on reciprocity, encouraging community members to earn tokens through educational programmes, skills development, and environmental clean-up initiatives. Tokens can be exchanged for essential items like food and clothing, fostering a sense of self-sufficiency and development.

“Our staff and volunteers go above and beyond, often working overtime, weekends, and even hosting clients in their own homes. Their selflessness is inspiring, and this award is a testament to their hard work,” said Lambers, highlighting the team’s dedication.

The centre’s impact is palpable, with over 100 previously unemployed youth placed in jobs, 4 000 community members participating in recycling projects, and a remarkable half-million rand’s worth of vegetables grown in 2023.

“Financial contributions, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in our efforts to empower this community,” said Lambers, emphasising the importance of community support.

As the centre looks to the future, exciting projects like a culinary school and carpentry training course have been launched, with more initiatives in the pipeline.
