The vibrant life of Rachel Otte, a 22-year-old Eastern Cape woman killed in Fish Hoek earlier this month, was remembered at a memorial service on Saturday, 15 November.
Otte, who grew up in East London, was killed during a house robbery in Fish Hoek, Cape Town on Friday, 7 November.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Peter Middleton said friends of the victim discovered her body at the scene.
“The deceased was found inside her place of residence. The crime scene was consistent with a burglary/house robbery,” he said.

Her father Gareth shared the family’s profound loss in a social media post days after the tragic incident.
“It is with profound sadness that we announce the tragic passing of our daughter, Rachel,” he wrote. “Her kindness, love and creativity touched people everywhere. She was a source of beautiful colour, life and laughter,” he shared. “Rachy joins her brother, Michael, who passed away on this day 20 years ago.”
Tributes for the young woman continue to pour in on social media.
In another heartfelt message, her best friend shared that there were no words to describe her heartache.
“To my beautiful Rachyโฆ my heart is absolutely shattered,” the post read. “You were my childhood best friend, my sister in every way that mattered, my partner in laughter and creativity.
“I will forever cherish every memory we made, every laugh we shared and every moment that felt like forever when we were together,” the tribute continued. “I will miss you endlessly and love you always.”
A second memorial service will be held in East London on Saturday, 22 November at 11:00 at Calvary Church, Quigney.
