CROSSING the line in first position with a time of 56 minutes and 29 seconds, almost six minutes ahead of his nearest rival during the recent Isuzu Corporate Triathlon Challenge (CTC), resulted in Kyle White, a first year IIE BCom Business Management student at The IIE’s Varsity College Nelson Mandela Bay campus, making an indelible impression.
The 18-year-old, who’s been training in open water for about three years, had a very strong swim.
He came out of the water first, led from that moment on and never looked back.
Speaking on his experience of the event, White said he really enjoyed the CTC as the event is very well managed. But what stands out most for him is the support from the spectators.
“It was amazing to see the number of people along the course even though the weather was not great. The support is very encouraging, especially when having a bad day,” said White.
His resilience and aspirations are notable as this is his third year competing in the CTC and he has been improving year on year.
Humbled by last year’s third place podium finish he has his sights set even higher.
“I’m training at the moment to compete in the Half Ironman competition and once ready, I’d like to take on the full Ironman,” he said.
White will be taking part in the 3 Beaches Swim-Run Challenge later this month and will be training towards the SA Triathlon Championships as well as the SA National Open Water Championship.
This promising young man’s message to prospective athletes is simple … Have fun!
“It doesn’t matter if you are competitive or if you are just doing it to finish the race, just enjoy every moment.
“It’s an inclusive sport for all and it’s never too late to get involved,” said White.
