IN response to the tragic double murder of a father and son at the Arlington Waste Tip, Mayor Babalwa Lobishe has expressed deep outrage and called for swift justice.

The victims were identified as Heinrich Minnie (47), and his son, Tiaan Minnie (26).

The shocking incident occurred around 11:00 on Monday, February 3, when the pair were unloading rubbish. Heinrich was shot while standing outside his vehicle, and Tiaan was killed while seated in the passenger seat.

Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg of the South African Police Services said, “The motive and the suspects are unknown, and the investigation is ongoing.”

Addressing the Mayoral Committee, the Executive Management Committee, and dedicated municipal staff at the Mayoral Committee meeting in the Council Chambers on Wednesday, February 5, Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Executive Mayor, Babalwa Lobishe, condemned this brutal killing.

“This senseless act of violence highlights the increasing threat of criminal activity in our city. I urge the South African Police Services to ensure those responsible are swiftly brought to justice. Such incidents jeopardise the hard work put into crime prevention initiatives like the Cooperation Agreement signed last year.”

The mayor reaffirmed the city’s commitment to strengthening partnerships and improving safety, urging the community to assist in the investigation.

Police are appealing for information that could lead to arrests, asking witnesses to contact Detective Warrant Officer John Lourens at 071 352 4706 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
