A man (35) was fatally shot and two other alleged gang affiliates wounded during a shoot-out at the busy intersection of Walker and Kabega Park Drive in Sherwood, Gqeberha, yesterday afternoon in broad daylight.
According to police spokesperson Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, the Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (Gang Investigation Unit) are on the hunt for four suspects.
“It is alleged that at about 17:00, Dawet Aleme (35) contacted his friends to assist him with his vehicle, a VW Jetta which had broken down. Four males arrived with a white Kia to assist and while attending to the vehicle, a white Nissan NP200 bakkie arrived with two suspects in the front and two suspects on the back of the LDV. The two suspects at the back started shooting at the group. Dawet Aleme was fatally shot in his back and in the stomach while two other males also sustained gunshot wounds and were taken to hospital for treatment,” said Janse van Rensburg.
Police suspect that the incident is gang related. A case of murder and attempted murder is under investigation.
