A Manganese truck was hijacked and set alight on Addo Road in the early hours of this morning, Monday, June 21.

According to police spokesperson, Capt. André Beetge, the white Scania truck was worth R1,6 million. They truck was not carrying any cargo at the time of the incident.

Beetge said that according to the driver of the truck, he was travelling on this road at approximately 03:30 when the truck was pelted with stones. When he stopped, he was approached by four men who ordered him to run away.

“They took his cell phone and set the truck on fire underneath a train bridge on this road,” Beetge said.

Police are investigating a case of malicious damage to property.

Beetge added that they have officials out, monitoring the roads but this seemed to have been an isolated incident.

“There are no protests or taxi strikes happening,” he added.
