A 39-year-old individual has been summoned in connection with alleged contraventions of the Tax Administration Act, following investigations involving the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Hawks’ Serious Commercial Crime Investigation (SCCI) unit.

According to Hawks spokesperson Warrant Officer Ndiphiwe Mhlakuvana, it is alleged that during the 2018 tax year the suspect unlawfully, wilfully, and without just cause failed to submit his personal income tax return to SARS.

“Such omissions are regarded as undermining the statutory compliance mechanisms designed to safeguard the integrity of the national tax system,” he said.

SARS referred the matter to the Hawks for investigation.

“The Hawks’ investigation resulted in him being served with a summons on 18 September 2025.”

He is scheduled to appear before the Gqeberha Magistrates’ Court on 16 October 2025.
