A man died after he jumped off the Shark Rock pier at Hobie Beach in Summerstrand yesterday, February 1.

Luthando Bailey (28) allegedly jumped off the pier at approximately 18:00.

According to police spokesperson, Col. Priscilla Naidu, Bailey tried swimming to shore but he couldn’t. “He was assisted to the shore and by the time he reached the shore he was already dead,” she said.

She added that he was in the company of three heavily intoxicated women.

Bailey hailed from Yoyo street in Walmer Location. 

An inquest docket has been opened.
