A 40-year-old Zimbabwean man was fatally wounded after he allegedly shot himself with an illegal firearm this afternoon, November 26, in Moses Mabida in Kirkwood.
According to police spokesperson, Captain Marius McCarthy, police were alerted about a shooting incident at about 13:45 in the Msengeni area in Moses Mabida.
“The injured man was transported to hospital before police arrival and died on the way. It is alleged that he accidentally discharged a firearm and fatally wounded himself in the abdomen,” said McCarthy.
“The firearm’s serial number was filed off, and police confiscated it.”
An inquest was opened for further investigation.
