A man died in the early hours of this morning, January 11, after being hit by a truck in the vicinity of Coega.

According to police spokesperson, Capt. Sandra Janse van Rensburg, at approximately 01:30, a Ford bakkie was stationary on the yellow line near Cerebos, Coega, in the direction of Nelson Mandela Bay.

She explained that a truck, travelling in the same direction, hit the bakkie on the side, causing the truck to overturn. “It is further alleged that the driver of the bakkie was standing next to the vehicle when he was hit by the truck,” Janse van Rensburg said.

A 39-year-old man passed away at the scene. Six occupants of the bakkie and the truck driver were transported to hospital for treatment. 

SAPS Swartkops detectives are investigating a case of culpable homicide.

The name of the deceased will only be released at a later stage. The investigation is ongoing.
