Bards, jousting, fire dancing, stalls and more will light up Gqeberha’s Norm-Hudlin Trails on September 28 as the Medieval Fayre & Banquet returns for another year.
The Fayre promises to be a festival of fun for the whole family and, with pets always welcome on site, attendees can happily include their fur-babies in their recreation of this fascinating period in history.
There will be entertainment aplenty, from bards and parkour demonstrations to competitions, interactive activities and pony rides for the kids.
In addition, festinos will have the opportunity to browse more than 50 medieval-themed stalls or sample the fayre’s finest fare at any of the incredible food trucks stationed at Norm-Hudlin .
Those attending the Banquet performance in the evening can enjoy a fully immersive experience that includes performances by local artists and fire/sword dancing.
A jousting tournament as well as the notorious “plague doctor” prowling the grounds to administer a special “medicine” to “sickly” peasants will add a further touch of authenticity to the event.
Banquet guests can buy meals and drinks from any of the themed food trucks but be warned: once the feast is underway, the Queen’s Coin will be the only currency accepted, so best exchange those rands beforehand.
Tarryn Light, of Tarryn Light Productions, said she was looking forward to bringing something new to the fayre.
“We are very excited to be working with Norm-Hudlin this year,” she said.
“Being out in the open and immersed in nature very much aligns with our theme this year, ‘Let the Games Begin!’. This refers to the interactive spaces we will have available, where guests can learn and play medieval-themed games.”
While the Medieval Fayre & Banquet promises to be one of the events of the season, troublemakers and those ignoring the rules may find themselves sent to the stocks by the Queen (and yes, they are real).
At the conclusion of the Banquet, festinos can hit the dancefloor at a medieval-themed afterparty.
Day tickets for the fayre are priced at R50 (R20 at the door if dressed to theme) while those wanting to enjoy both day and nighttime activities will be charged R220.
Bookings can be made through Quicket while tickets are also available at the door. Children under the age of six will be admitted free of charge.
Gates open at 11:00 and close at 17:00 for the Fayre, while the Banquet (for 18+ only) is from 18:30 until late.
